1975 marks our 50th Anniversary. Since 1975 there has been a cinema in operation in the Corn Exchange on King Street and that makes us the longest continuously operating cinema in Ipswich. Once home to many cinemas, Ipswich had a thriving industry including the Picturehouse on Tavern Street (now a Boots chemist), the Central Cinema on Princes Street (lost to fire in 1969), the ABC in the Buttermarket (demolished in the early 1990s) and the original Odeon on Lloyds Avenue (now a bingo club).
The KSc50 programme marks the 50th Anniversaries of seven beloved and acclaimed films released in 1975, commencing with the BFI's newly restored reissue of Chantal Akerman's Jeanne Dielman, 23, quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles in March and Peter Weir's Picnic at Hanging Rock in April. Films will be announced on a monthly basis and KSc Members always receive 24 hours priority booking.
